CHAPTER ONE

The Caves of Caneen

Your King needs you! A dire message has arrived: the dwarven miners deep within the Caves of Caneen have unearthed a mysterious scaled orb, and His Majesty King Berenso demands its immediate retrieval.

Enter the cave and retrieve the strange object in the name of the King!

This is no mere trinket; the King believes this relic holds power vital to the realm, and he wants it brought to the capital at all costs.

Locals whisper chilling folktales of the Caves of Caneen; stories of ill-fated adventurers, disappearances, and ancient dangers lurking in the dark.

Entering the caves has your team on edge: none of the hundreds of miners are present, and there are signs of a monstrous attack.

Near the bottom of the cave, you find a locked door. Forcing your way inside, you run into a well-placed trap laid weeks in the making: the floor begins to tremble, and dust from the ceiling falls onto your foreheads.

For the King!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many players at a time?

Caves of Caneen can host between 1-6 players at a time.

We've had 8 players in this room before, but the space and the number of puzzles are limited. The rooms are around the size of an office, plus furniture, props, and decor! If you'd like to book for 7 or 8, you can book for 6, leave a booking note about your additional player(s), and we will add them to your booking at your reservation.

What's the minimum number of players?

The minimum number of players is 1. There are no puzzles in this room requiring players to be in two or more spots at one time. While it would be a challenge to do by oneself, it is entirely possible.

What's the maximum number of player?

The maximum number of players is 6. Space concerns aside, this game was made to be approached by up to 6 players at a time.

What's the recommended number of players?

Based on the number of puzzles in the room and the general challenge, groups of 3-5 have the best ratio of number of puzzles to difficulty.

Groups of 2 can beat the game under time if they have good reading comprehension and communication. Groups of 6 or more regularly get out under well under time.

How is this a spiritual successor to Clancey's Lodge?

This game concept originated from an adaption from Clancey's Lodge, a fan-favorite Yosemite Haunted Cabin escape room from our previous location. Originally we wanted to adapt CL into our medieval fantasy setting and have a quick turnaround to make other projects.

So many ideas had to be altered and changed at a certain point it was more recognizable as it's own standalone room than a remake of CL, so we explored the idea of making this the start of our new adventure!

The story is the closest aspect to the original adaptation; you act as skilled government agents investigating a mystery when events go awry.

What carried over from Clancey's Lodge?

  1. The bookcase and final puzzle have been rebuilt from the ground-up using original materials recovered from Clancey's Lodge. The puzzles to solve are now different.
  2. The clock makes a return, however is implemented in a different way.
  3. An old friend returns.

Are there special game mechanics?

This game using the first of our storytelling mechanics: the storyblock.

This is a completely optional mechanic that skilled players may wish to solve to fully understand the story behind the escape room. It's not necessary to complete the game, but it offers the complete picture of the story to players.

Throughout the game you will uncover Lore Notes, which resemeble 1" x 2" word blocks. These magnetized blocks fit into spots on the storyblock, and if completed correctly, tells the entire tale of the room.

If players can complete the story block correctly they can complete the case, and bring all the evidence collected to the King and bring justice to what happened at Caneen.

If players want to truly 100% complete this game, they will need to solve this in one attempt!

How does the Storyblock work?

There are 20 wordblocks you will uncover throughout the room. Each block has a unique phrase on it, and fits on a specific spot on the Storyblock. If you complete it correctly you solve the case!

Teams running out of time may wish to skip this mechanic, otherwise teams that feel confident with their time management skills may want to work on it throughout the escape game experience.

How many puzzles are there?

There are a total of 14 puzzles and steps.

Clancey's Lodge originally had 12.
